Taking racing to the streets

From the archive, first published Friday 4th Aug 2006.

THE Billericay Striders are set to pound up and down their town's busy High Street at the weekend.

The club will be running its annual charity 100-mile relay around a two-mile course, which includes the High Street, this Saturday.

Starting at 8am, club members will run, in relay, one, two or more laps, while others collect money for Hamlin House until the 100 miles is completed.

Club secretary David Sweet said: "This has now become an annual charity event for the Striders. It is well supported by members and the people of Billericay are always very generous."

The club has organised a charity relay run every year since 1988 but for two years used a footpath beside the Thames.

Back on home ground, the club says the weekend's event will be the 17th Round the Town Relay.
