The company behind plans for a £300 million development of Bathside Bay has come out fighting by answering a string of concerns.
Hutchison Ports wants to build a new container terminal and has submitted plans to Tendring Council.
A referendum was to be held into the plan, but that was postponed because residents said not enough information was available.
Now, Hutchison has written to Harwich MP Ivan Henderson to answer some of the concerns.
In the letter the company states that the port will not be automated, 772 jobs would directly result in the expansion, with 500 more in road haulage, freight forwarding, warehousing and other activities.
430 more are expected from extra economic activity such as shops and restaurants
The letter says: "It is expected the majority of the workforce will be drawn from Tendring district, with a high proportion from the immediate vicinity of Harwich."
