Billericay: Sport brand sponsors runners

From the archive, first published Wednesday 22nd Oct 2003.

A running club in Billericay has secured sponsorship from a top sporting brand for one of their popular races.

Runners taking part in the 10km road race around Billericay will be able to do so in style after Adidas have agreed to provide trainers, rucksacks, water bottles, running numbers, trophies and prizes.

The Billericay Striders Running Club has organised the event for the last eight years and the 2002 run attracted more than 400 athletes.

The race has grown in popularity since it first started and runners from all ages and abilities take part each year.

The Adidas sponsorship came after race cordinator, David Sweet, was taking part in the Chicago Marathon in September and was able to speak to representatives from the brand.

Members are delighted at the sponsorship and spokesman, Ian Grant, said it is a real boost to the club: "This is the first time we have had the support of a major sports supplier and it shows what a successful and well organised the 10km road race is.

"We are proud and privileged to have Adidas help in supplying race materials and prizes.

"They have also generously contributed rucksacks, water bottles and running shoes."

The 10km road race will be held on Sunday, November 2, at 9.45am. Entry costs £5 for non-club runners and £4 for members.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the club's website at www.billericaystriders.com
