Cross country: Striders have to settle for second position

In the third race of the South Essex "Running Fitness" Cross Country League, Thrift Green Trotters were winners by a margin of 15 points over East Essex Triathletes.

Billericay Striders Running Club current leaders of Division One of the League could only manage third place. Castle Point Joggers won the Division Two race.

The four mile course at the Hainault Country Park was muddy but the early morning frost gave the surface a firm feel.

John Barker from Thrift Green Trotters was the first man home and Wendy Read from Billericay Striders, maintaining her winning record, was the first woman.

Despite their first defeat of the season Billericay Striders Running Club retained their leadership of the Division One by three points over Thrift Green Trotters.

Castle Point Joggers continue to maintain a strong position in as leaders of Division Two.
